5 reasons to visit Fuerteventura
A Spanish sun that shines all year round, red earth burnt by the wind, vast beaches… All good reasons to fly off to Fuerteventura, the second largest island in the Canaries.
To enjoy idyllic beaches
With its 150 km of white sand and turquoise water, Fuerteventura is THE Spanish seaside destination. Unmissable sites include Cofete Beach to the south overlooked by dizzyingly high mountains and El Cotillo covers to the north near Corralejo Natural Park! Here again, 10 km of pristine beaches stretch out, a real leisure paradise. Against a backdrop of sandy desert, Sotavento Beach to the south of Fuerteventura is also universally popular.
To hike in slow mode
With its craggy mountains, lava fields, small deserts and coves, Fuerteventura is the perfect terrain for hiking enthusiasts. On this Canary island, you can walk along beautiful marked trails (250 km) discovering the contrasting scenery of Jandía Natural Park or the stretches of black sand around Ajuy. The bravest will set off along the GR® 31 or tackle the splendid Calderón Hondo volcano. Landscapes to explore on foot or mountain bike!
To practise the best water sports
It’s very windy in Fuerteventura! A godsend for sailing enthusiasts. Those who prefer the water have not been forgotten with great spots for board sports or calmer areas to go snorkelling or paddle boarding. Glass Beach, located after the Corralejo dunes, is the perfect place for a surf or kite surf session!
To take a trip to the island of Lobos
20 min by boat from Corralejo hides a speck of land and nature that closely resembles the image you have of paradise: sunlit beaches, twisted volcanic reliefs, crystalline waters… Bear in mind that in order to protect the island, only 400 people are allowed to come ashore each day.
To roam the magnificent colonial villages
It’s impossible to go to Fuerteventura without stopping off in Betancuria, the capital of the Canaries, whose white houses contrast with the harshness of the setting. After visiting its beautiful church, head for the Morro Velosa viewpoint to enjoy a 360° view. At the seaside, the little port of El Cotillo ticks all the boxes. Also don’t miss the villages of Puertito de los Molinos and Majanicho.
